Top7 Ultrasonic Cleaners – Reviews and Buyer’s Guide

by Thomas Hart, Last Updated - February 21, 2019

What if I told you that alongside having a green car and green products, you could have a green cleaner for your small objects as well?

Sounds too good to be true, doesn’t it? But I’m here to convince you otherwise.

Modern-day Ultrasonic cleaners are as eco-friendly as they are affordable. Not only do they come with non-toxic and biodegradable ingredients, but they also have an extensive cleaning process as well.

As one of the residents of Bishop, California, one of the dustiest places in North America, my glasses would often get smudged with grime and dirt. And I soon grew tired of the tedious cleaning methods conventional cleaners provided.

They were tough to use, at times left residual gunk on the lens, and the toxic chemicals would often corrode the glass or plastic.

But ever since I shifted to the best ultrasonic cleaners, my lenses, and even the frames, have never looked cleaner.

Hello! This is Thomas, and in this guide, I’m going to tell you about my seven favorite Ultrasonic cleaners.

So, read along!

Buyer’s guide to Ultrasonic Cleaners

Okay, now that you know some of the best ultrasonic cleaners to consider, there is a small detail that you might be missing out on.

And that is how to choose which ultrasonic cleaner which is best suited for personal needs.

However, do not fret. I’ll be your guide through all the important factors to keep in mind.

  1. What size suits your needs?

I know, once you’ve confidently decided upon a cleaner that you need to buy, choosing among the various types can seem daunting. Therefore, one of the very first factors to keep in mind is the size.

How to decide?

To put it simply, see what you’ll be cleaning. Is it something small like jewelry or coins, or is it bigger, like a trophy or even surgical instruments?

A simple way to decide is to take advantage of a tape measure. Trust me, I ordered a product thinking there would probably be no need to measure what I would be cleaning.

Like they say, though— the devil is in the details.

I absolutely regretted it. This is why I recommend that you measure your items and select a model whose cleaning tank conforms to the dimension you’ll need.

  1. Are you cleaning or processing samples?

An ultrasonic cleaner caters to many needs. From PCB board and utensils, to coins and jewelry, from surgical instruments to an antique lost over time.

Ultrasonic cleaners can be formulated and constructed to remove various unnecessary coatings and surfaces through the use of several solvents. In laboratories, these cleaners need to be able to clean blood stains and tissue remains from surgical instruments.

If you’re someone who has a lab or just someone who just needs to clean various and different surfaces from time to time, it is best to consider which cleaner will do the job the best.

In addition, if you’ll be using your cleaner only for regular cleaning and maintenance at home, it is unwise to spend extravagantly on one.

  1. Employ a basket to increase the life of the cleaner.

Just like you buy insurance for a car, I think you should spend just a little bit more and insure your cleaner. It is important to protect your necessary tools.

How does buying a basket help prolong the life of a cleaner and increase the cleaning efficiency?

Think about this: You buy a cleaner and want to use it for products that are metallic and will sit atop the cleaning tank of the cleaner.

When the ultrasound is turned on, however, the vibration catches the metal object and effectively turns into a drill! You certainly didn’t expect that, did you?

Over a long time, this method of operation may result in small holes or cracks in the cleaning tank. Big problem! Adding a simple overhanging basket ensures that those metal objects never touch the tank of your cleaner. And that effectively prolongs the life of your cleaner.

Another scenario worth considering is cleaning objects that require heat along with ultrasound to be effective. Therefore, if you have a basket with an insulated handle, all you need to do is pick the basket up. There is no worry about burning your hands while operating the cleaner that way, either

  1. What frequency range do you need?

Decoding this, can be the difference between satisfaction and disappointment. Various objects need various frequency ranges in order to get cleaned.

For example, something like a fine piece of jewelry needs a delicate touch, a frequency range that causes no cavitation.

For jewelry and coins, consider something that produces frequency in a range of 85-135 kHz. Higher frequencies produce very less cavitation bubbles and are ideal for finer details in jewelry and glass.

What this means is, at a frequency of 85 kHz or more, the vibration occurs 85,000 times in a second! This is how the cleaning is done. Lower frequencies are useful when sturdy objects need cleaning, but lower frequency cleaners are loud. Do keep this in mind. I know it from experience.. They can clean effectively using cavitation bubbles, but they are a noisy nuisance while they are operating.

A frequency range of 25-35 kHz is usually ideal for most of your needs.

  1. Do you need heat for your cleaning?

Several objects clean better with the use of heat. Heat basically agitates the dirt and grease, and this helps your ultrasonic cleaner clean faster and effectively. So, you must decide if you’re okay with preheating your solvent solutions or if something more user-friendly is your need.

Many cleaners offer heating units built in their tank. They clean as they heat. Your jewelry and small metals may or may not benefit from heat, but cleaning things like antiquities and glass may.

Grease and abrasives often don’t stand a chance with heat thrown into the mix.

  1. What accessories are needed?

Some cleaners provide accessories, while many don’t. I, for example, needed a basket to clean my lenses and rings, so I got one.

If your need is a mesh tray, or a dual handed basket, try looking out for these things while making a purchase. It’s also possible to purchase them separately if they are not supplied with the cleaner.

Happy Cleaning!

Ultrasonic cleaners are a fantastic and cost-effective way of keeping the smaller objects in your house clean and sparkling. I hope that my user guide was able to help you out so you can choose the one that will fit your needs the best.

Whether for your rings or glasses, your antiques or surgical instruments, I wish you an amazing cleaning experience.
